Sequel to Hit Marvel Studios Special Presentation Officially in the Works

Michael Giacchino, who directed and composed the music for the 2023 Marvel TV special Werewolf by Night, has announced they are making a follow-up.

During a panel discussion with Deadline, composer Michael Giacchino announced he will direct the sequel. He playfully urged anyone who hasn’t seen the original to check it out, noting it’s available on Disney+ for those who still subscribe.

Marvel’s ‘Werewolf by Night’ was a highlight of Phase 4, receiving strong reviews (90% on Rotten Tomatoes) and praise for its distinctive style. Filmed in black and white as an homage to classic horror movies, it featured Gael Garcia Bernal as the werewolf Jack Russell and Laura Donnelly as monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone.

In the Halloween special, Elsa took possession of the powerful Bloodstone, establishing her as a major player in the more magical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We also saw Jack Russell beginning to master his werewolf abilities, suggesting he could become a hero down the line. Finally, the special formally introduced Man-Thing, a character fans have been anticipating in the MCU for quite some time.

We haven’t heard much about a follow-up to Werewolf by Night until recently. Composer Michael Giacchino mentioned in April he’d love to work on it again, but Marvel was waiting to see how the entertainment industry settled down after some shifts. The studio has been releasing fewer movies each year to prevent audience fatigue, but it looks like the sequel is now moving forward.

Viewers who enjoyed the first installment can expect these stories to continue with Michael Giacchino at the helm.
