Pixar and Disney have finally revealed the premise for Toy Story 5. Greta Lee (Past Lives, TRON: Ares) is joining as a type of toy we haven’t see in the franchise before. Here’s the official synopsis for Toy Story 5 to go with that teaser trailer:
Okay, so the first teaser for the new Toy Story film just dropped, and let me tell you, there’s a new player in town. They’ve introduced Lilypad, a seriously advanced, frog-shaped tablet, and Greta Lee is doing the voice work. From what I’ve seen, this little gadget is going to be a major headache for Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the whole crew. It seems like Lilypad is the key to a brand new challenge for our toys, and things are definitely getting more complicated for them!
The initial trailer reveals the established toys are scared of the new one. The movie’s first poster hints at the reason, depicting Lilypad looking confident and threatening with the phrase “it’s on.”
Directors Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris recently shared details about their new film, explaining how it builds on the existing story and introduces a fantastic new cast member. They described the process of imagining how the beloved characters would navigate today’s technology as both funny and touching, and expressed excitement to finally share a preview with viewers. They also praised Greta Lee’s performance as Lilypad, highlighting her ability to bring a playful yet heartfelt energy to the role.
Lee isn’t the only new tech-related toy making an appearance. Conan O’Brien is also becoming part of the Toy Story world as Smarty Pants, a high-tech potty training toy.
When Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026, we’ll see if Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the classic toys are more scared of high-tech toilets than they are of a new, threatening Frog tablet.
