Josh Brolin Hints at a Thanos Return in the MCU

Rumors that Thanos is gone for good might not be true. Even though he seemingly died twice in Avengers: Endgame – once by Thor and again by Iron Man – the complexities of the multiverse could bring him back. According to Comic Book Movie, Josh Brolin (who played Thanos) was asked at the premiere of Running Man if he might return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here’s what he said about the possibility of reprising his role as the villain who once wielded the Infinity Gauntlet in a future Marvel film.

If Joe Russo comes to me, which he may have, I don’t know, and has an idea, then I might acquiesce.

Okay, so I’m seeing some buzz that Josh Brolin might be teasing a possible return as Thanos in a future Avengers movie! It’s just a hint right now, but as a huge MCU fan, I’m definitely hoping it’s true. Imagine if they brought him back… that would be wild!

It definitely looks like Thanos could return in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. While Josh Brolin might appear in Avengers: Doomsday, we don’t think the current cast list is final. However, we believe Thanos is more likely to return in Secret Wars. If the movie follows the comics and takes place on Battleworld, there could be a realm where Thanos won and is the ruler.

Thanos is set to return in the new Avengers Campus attraction, Avengers: Infinity Defense. While details are still limited, the ride will take guests on a Multiverse adventure, including a version of reality where Thanos is king. Most fans expect Josh Brolin to once again voice the character, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed.

If Josh Brolin is returning for Infinity Defense, it makes sense to also see him as King Thanos in Secret Wars. While we’d enjoy more Thanos, we’re even more excited about the possibility of Brolin reprising his role as Cable from Deadpool 2.
