Colman Domingo is generating excitement around Steven Spielberg’s next film, a science fiction movie scheduled for release in June 2026. Domingo shared that Spielberg actually wrote a character specifically for him in the movie.
Domingo, who appeared in a minor role in Steven Spielberg’s 2012 movie Lincoln, says this new role feels very meaningful to him personally.
He said he started crying as soon as he read the script, explaining that it felt deeply human. Ultimately, he shared that the story explores what’s possible when people truly connect with one another.
Steven Spielberg is working on a new, currently unnamed film based on an original idea of his own. David Koepp, a frequent Spielberg collaborator, wrote the screenplay. Universal Pictures plans to release the movie in the United States on June 12, 2026.
Let me tell you, the cast for this film is absolutely stacked! We’ve got Emily Blunt leading the way, and she’s joined by the incredibly talented Josh O’Connor and the always-reliable Colin Firth. Eve Hewson, Wyatt Russell, and Colman Domingo round out the main players, but honestly, the supporting cast is just as impressive. They’ve brought in a ton of great performers, including Noah Robbins, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Lance Archer, Brian Cage, Gabby Beans, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Michael Gaston, Elliot Villar, Tommy Martinez, and Patricia Conolly – it’s a seriously deep bench of talent.
Filming started in February and finished in May. The movie was shot in various places across the U.S., including New Jersey, New York, and Atlanta. During production, it was known as Non-View. They needed many extras to play roles like wrestling fans, hotel visitors, diner patrons, and even North Korean soldiers.
Paul Tazewell, the costume designer who previously collaborated with Spielberg on West Side Story, returned to work on this new film. Legendary composer John Williams is also involved, making this his 30th project with Spielberg. Their long-standing partnership has created some of the most memorable movie soundtracks ever.
This film represents another exciting step in Domingo’s career, which has always been defined by his diverse talents and enthusiasm. He enjoys working in many different creative areas, explaining, “I’ve always needed to explore multiple avenues. I believe directing makes me a better actor, and acting informs my directing and writing – everything is connected and makes me stronger overall.”
He also thought about the source of his motivation. He believes it might be inherited from his ancestors, who were enslaved people. He wonders how they endured such hardship, noting they didn’t just resist—they found joy in life, through love, music, and intimacy. He feels a connection to their courage and curiosity, and believes he embodies those same qualities, demonstrating that people are capable of experiencing a full range of emotions and activities even in the face of adversity.
Although details are still secret, Steven Spielberg’s next science fiction movie is already generating a lot of excitement for 2026. The film boasts a talented creative team and promises moving performances from its actors.
