New Look at the Upcoming ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ Movie Unveiled

Good news for Mario fans! A new animated movie, based on Super Mario Galaxy, is coming to US theaters on April 3, 2026.

This movie continues the adventures of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and their companions, picking up where the popular 2023 film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, left off.

A fresh preview of the movie has been revealed, and the official trailer will be available on Wednesday at 6 a.m. Pacific Time, offering fans a first look at what’s coming next.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel, written by Matthew Fogel. The voice cast, including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson, reprise their roles from the original film. Illumination and Nintendo are producing the movie, and Universal Pictures is handling distribution.

This story continues where the last film left off, following Mario, the famous plumber and hero of the Mushroom Kingdom, along with his brother Luigi and Princess Peach.

Jack Black returns as Bowser, the villain who was previously shrunk and locked up by Princess Peach. Keegan-Michael Key is back as the voice of Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson reprises his role as Kamek.

Following the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo and Illumination have confirmed they’re making a sequel. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa had previously stated the company would consider more animated films if the first Mario movie did well. The original film’s creative team – Horvath, Jelenic, and Fogel – will be back to continue the story, with the announcement made in March 2024.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to launch in Japan on April 24, 2026, in both regular and IMAX theaters. A recent trailer and sneak peek have given fans a preview of the movie’s exciting adventures, fun, and humor as Mario and his friends travel through different galaxies.

The new movie will build on the world of the Mushroom Kingdom, and fans who’ve loved the characters for years will be thrilled to see them return. We’ll likely get our first look at the story and some amazing new places in the trailer coming out this Wednesday.
