Anime often features characters with incredible abilities that can overcome nearly any challenge – powers that defy the laws of physics, alter fate, or simply push beyond what’s normally possible. We’ve compiled a list of fifteen of these powers, detailing how they work – whether it’s blocking attacks, manipulating reality, or facing universe-level threats. For each power, we’ve included the anime it’s from and the studio that animated it, so you can easily find and watch the series.
Ultra Instinct

In ‘Dragon Ball Super,’ Ultra Instinct is a powerful ability that allows a fighter’s body to move and react on its own, without needing to think. This dramatically improves reflexes and dodging skills, letting them avoid or counter attacks just in the nick of time. It works by letting instinct take over, making it harder for opponents to find an opening. The anime shows that Ultra Instinct is triggered during intense battles and becomes stronger as the user gains better control of their emotions.
One For All

In ‘My Hero Academia,’ One For All is a powerful ability passed down through generations. It works by storing energy, which significantly increases a user’s strength, speed, and resilience. It also allows them to access the powers of those who wielded it before. The ability gets stronger as the user trains and connects with the ‘vestiges’ – the memories and personalities – within the power. The series shows how the technique evolves through controlled release and specialized ways of using it.
Limitless with Infinity

As a huge anime fan, especially of ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’, I’m fascinated by the Limitless technique, particularly Infinity. Basically, it lets the user control space itself, creating this incredible shield that doesn’t just block attacks, but slows them down to a complete stop. It’s like they’re changing the distance between themselves and anything coming at them, making physical blows and energy blasts totally useless. And it’s not just defense! Skilled users can even teleport, pull things towards them, or push them away by altering where things are in space. The way MAPPA animates it – with all those layers of barriers and the detailed hand movements connected to cursed energy – is just visually stunning and really sells how powerful and complex it is.
Rinnegan

In ‘Naruto Shippuden,’ the Rinnegan is a powerful eye that unlocks a range of abilities, including control over gravity, the power to absorb attacks, summoning creatures, and even manipulating souls. It allows the user to share their vision with others and, through a technique called the Outer Path, even bring people back to life. The Rinnegan can also understand almost any ninja technique and gives the user the ability to create or control the host of the Ten Tails. The anime studio, Pierrot, explains these powers work through connected receivers and abilities unique to each path.
Spiral Energy

In the anime ‘Gurren Lagann,’ Spiral Energy is a force powered by a character’s fighting spirit and determination to evolve. It’s unique because it doesn’t have a limit – machines can become stronger, combine, and defeat even the biggest enemies simply by believing they can. This energy allows for incredible feats like warping space, creating matter, and powering drills that defy the laws of physics. The creators, Gainax, present it as a cycle where greater ambition leads to even greater power, expanding to a universal level.
The Founding Titan

In ‘Attack on Titan’, the Founding Titan has the power to change the bodies and memories of those with the Titan ability, known as Subjects of Ymir. It controls other Titans using a special connection, and can even reach into the memories and bodies of all Eldians, past and present. When someone with royal blood uses the Founding Titan, it can cause massive, widespread changes and send commands over vast distances. The animation studios Wit Studio and MAPPA have shown how this power works through a network called the ‘Paths’, and how it’s passed down through generations.
Geass

In the anime ‘Code Geass,’ Geass is a powerful ability that lets a user control someone’s mind, forcing them to follow a single, direct order. How this power works differs for each person who possesses it, with some needing to maintain eye contact or only being able to use it on someone once. Skilled users can carefully word their commands to achieve complicated results, like changing memories or getting multiple people to act in unison. The series establishes that Geass is activated through a sort of agreement, signaled by eye contact.
All Fiction

The ‘All Fiction’ ability in ‘Medaka Box’ completely removes things from existence – whether it’s injuries, ideas, or even things that already happened. It works by changing the story itself, making it as if those things never existed at all. How much ‘All Fiction’ can erase depends on how the user defines what’s being removed. The series visually shows this by retroactively altering events, and these changes remain permanent.
Unlimited Blade Works

In ‘Fate/stay night,’ Unlimited Blade Works is a powerful ability that creates a world filled with copies of weapons. The user can instantly recreate any weapon they’ve seen, understand how it works, and then use it in battle, either from a distance or up close. The more weapons the user sees, the faster they can copy them and the more skilled they become. The animation studio Ufotable visually represents this as a special realm that transforms the entire battlefield into the caster’s own inner world.
Vector Manipulation

In the anime series ‘A Certain Scientific Railgun’ and ‘A Certain Magical Index’, characters use a power called Vector Manipulation to control forces – how strong they are and which way they’re going. This allows them to bounce attacks back at opponents, change the direction of moving objects, and even alter things like temperature and wind. Users quickly perform complex calculations to either defend against danger or unleash powerful attacks. The animation studio, J.C.STAFF, shows this power visually through characters touching things and by displaying mathematical field equations.
Gold Experience Requiem

In ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind,’ the Stand Gold Experience Requiem has a unique ability: it completely negates an opponent’s actions. It breaks the chain of cause and effect, meaning any attack or attempt to achieve a result is reset before it can happen. This traps enemies in a never-ending loop, preventing them from ever succeeding against the user. The anime studio David Production visually represents this reset by showing actions repeating without ever reaching a conclusion.
Saitama’s Strength

I’m a huge fan of Saitama from ‘One-Punch Man,’ and what’s so amazing is that he just seems to have no limit to how strong or fast he can be! He always wins with just one punch, no matter who he’s fighting – alien, monster, whatever. It’s consistently impressive! And he’s incredibly durable; nothing really seems to hurt him. The animators at Madhouse and J.C.Staff really capture this perfectly – he does all these incredible things with this totally relaxed, casual style, which is a funny contrast to the massive destruction around him.
Domain Expansion

In ‘Jujutsu Kaisen,’ Domain Expansion creates a closed-off area where the user’s special attack always lands. It’s like imposing new rules on the battlefield, putting opponents at a disadvantage. More powerful domains can override weaker ones, and even be used without a full barrier, though with less effectiveness. The anime shows these domains appearing as visual representations of the user’s cursed technique, like a shrine, coffin, or other symbolic motif.
Bankai

In the anime and manga ‘Bleach,’ Bankai is the ultimate release of a soul reaper’s Zanpakuto (sword), dramatically increasing their power and giving them special abilities. Every Bankai is unique to its user and can change things like the surrounding environment, their equipment, or even their own body. Reaching this level requires intense training and precise control, and any damage to the Bankai can weaken its effects. The series, animated by Studio Pierrot, shows this awakening happening through a connection with the sword’s spirit and using a specific release command.
Conqueror’s Haki

In the anime ‘One Piece,’ Conqueror’s Haki is a powerful ability that lets a user dominate the wills of others. Skilled users can even infuse their attacks with this power, causing internal damage to their opponents. It can immediately defeat weaker enemies and, when used against someone equally strong, can create massive shockwaves. This technique improves with self-control and can break through typical defenses. In the anime, Toei Animation shows Conqueror’s Haki as visible pressure and black lightning surrounding attacks.
Okay, so I’m really curious to hear what you all think! Let me know in the comments what your absolute favorite overpowered abilities are – the ones that just feel unstoppable. And more importantly, which power do you honestly believe has no weakness, no counter at all? I want to see what truly broken abilities you’ve come across!
