The DC Universe is growing! A new series, DC Crime, is coming to HBO Max, focusing on Jimmy Olsen as he investigates DC villains in a mockumentary style. Skyler Gisondo will star as the Daily Planet photographer and host of the show. The first case will involve the Flash’s enemy, Gorilla Grodd. Other reporters from the Daily Planet will also appear, though it’s unlikely Superman actors David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will be regular cast members. The series is being created by Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, the team behind American Vandal.
A Jimmy Olsen HBO Max/DCU TV Series Is In Line with the History of the Character
Jimmy Olsen was a hugely popular character in the 1950s, even starring in his own comic book, Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen. The series featured wild, imaginative stories typical of the Silver Age of comics. In these tales, Jimmy would often find himself transformed – becoming a giant like Godzilla as “Turtle Boy,” or gaining stretchy powers as “Elastic Lad.” He even teamed up with Superman inside the miniature city of Kandor, acting as a sidekick called “Flamebird” – a name later used by Dick Grayson (Robin). The comic ran for twenty years, totaling 163 issues, and is notable as the first appearance of the villain Darkseid. The series also surprisingly portrayed Jimmy as a bit of a ladies’ man, a trait that’s consistent with the original comics. Now, Jimmy Olsen is continuing this legacy with his own TV series in the DC Universe.

Gorilla Grodd Is Coming to the DCU
With Gorilla Grodd now part of the DC Universe thanks to the Jimmy Olsen TV show, it’s likely we’ll soon see Gorilla City – the hidden jungle kingdom of super-smart apes. Creature Commandos already established Grodd’s existence in this universe, and now it seems he’s headed for a live-action appearance.
Could the DCU’s Flash Arrive in the Jimmy Olsen TV Series?
With Grodd now appearing in the DC Universe, many fans are wondering if The Flash is also somewhere in this new world. Some speculate we might even see The Flash debut in a surprising place – a series focused on Jimmy Olsen! While it’s just a theory, with James Gunn leading the DCU, anything is possible – and it seems like the kind of unexpected move he’d make. It’s hard to imagine focusing on Grodd without acknowledging his biggest rival. Plus, Grant Gustin has expressed interest in returning as The Flash, so could this be the opportunity?
More About the HBO Max Jimmy Olsen TV Series
Skyler Gisondo is set to lead the upcoming Jimmy Olsen TV show. While initial reports suggested Lois and Clark wouldn’t be involved, there’s a good chance we might see them make brief appearances. DC Studios hasn’t announced when the series will begin production or be released.
