A fresh trailer has just been released for Playdate, the new action-comedy film featuring Kevin James and Alan Ritchson.
Luke Greenfield directed the film, with a screenplay by Neil Goldman. It will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video starting November 12th.
The movie follows Brian, an accountant who’s recently lost his job. He agrees to a playdate for their sons with Jeff, a friendly stay-at-home dad, expecting a relaxing afternoon. However, things quickly turn dangerous when they’re chased by a group of relentless mercenaries, forcing Brian to fight for survival.
Brian is clumsy and constantly runs into trouble, while Jeff seems surprisingly ready for anything. Director Luke Greenfield (known for films like Let’s Be Cops and The Girl Next Door) cleverly mixes the everyday chaos of family life with exciting action, turning a normal afternoon into a wild, funny adventure full of car chases and dangerous criminals.
The movie stars a lively cast, including Kevin James as Brian Jennings and Alan Ritchson as Jeff Eamon. Sarah Chalke plays Emily, with Alan Tudyk as Simon Maddox, Stephen Root as Gordon, Isla Fisher as Leslie, Benjamin Pajak as Lucas, and Banks Pierce as CJ completing the main ensemble.
I’m so excited! Alan Ritchson, who’s amazing as Reacher, is doing comedy now! I just got a first look at his new movie, Playdate, and it looks hilarious. It’s part of Prime Video’s Winter Preview, and you can stream it starting November 12th! Seriously, if you love seeing him kick butt, get ready to see him be funny – I can’t wait!

Filming for the movie began in Vancouver, Canada in March 2024 and finished in April, just over a month later. The project was first made public in February 2024, with Luke Greenfield set to direct and Neil Goldman writing the script. Soon after, the main cast – including Chalke, Tudyk, Root, and Fisher – joined the production.
The first look at the movie highlights the fun and natural connection between Kevin James and Alan Ritchson, who seem to be really enjoying themselves. The film combines exciting action with hilarious comedy, playing to both actors’ strengths.
