‘Predator: Badlands’ Smashes Franchise Records with Huge Box Office Debut

“Predator: Badlands” was the most popular movie this weekend, bringing in $40 million in North American ticket sales during its opening three days, the studio announced on Sunday. This success is especially welcome news for theaters, which have been facing lower attendance recently, and provided a significant lift to overall box office numbers.

The newest movie in the sci-fi series earned $40 million internationally, adding to its $80 million global opening weekend. This is the biggest opening ever for a Predator film, surpassing the $38.3 million debut of Alien vs. Predator in 2004.

As a big Predator fan, I was really excited for Predator: Badlands – it’s the eighth movie in the series, starting with the original back in ’87! And wow, it’s the most expensive one they’ve ever made, costing a whopping $105 million to produce. What I found really interesting is that it does something a little different with the story. It focuses on a young Predator, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, who’s kind of an outsider, and he actually teams up with an android researcher, Elle Fanning, on some distant planet. It’s a cool new take on the whole Predator universe!

The movie has been well-received by critics, earning an 85% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences also enjoyed it, giving it a “A-” grade in CinemaScore ratings. It had a very strong opening day, bringing in $15.6 million domestically – the best first-day performance for any film in the Predator series.

After almost four decades with its share of successes and disappointments, Predator: Badlands seems to have refreshed excitement among longtime fans and attracted a new audience as well.
