Ryan Reynolds is working with Amazon MGM Studios to remake the 1974 crime film, Thunderbolt & Lightfoot, which originally featured Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges. Reynolds will not only star in the new version, but he’s also producing it through his production company, Maximum Effort.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s collaborating with writers Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson, known for their work on the fourth season of Fargo. Shane Reid, who previously edited Reynolds’ Deadpool and Wolverine movies, will make his directorial debut with this project.
The movie Thunderbolt & Lightfoot features Clint Eastwood as a bank robber disguised as a preacher. He’s on the run from his former crew, who think he turned on them. He teams up with a young thief named Lightfoot, played by Jeff Bridges, and together they plot a new robbery involving the gang, but the plan quickly goes awry.
This film marked Michael Cimino’s first time directing, and he would later win an Oscar for Best Director with ‘The Deer Hunter’ in 1978. Jeff Bridges also received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the movie.
This new film has the potential to really showcase two main actors. There’s been a lot of excitement among fans about the possibility of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman working together again, and many are hoping it happens. The team behind the film, Mileti and Wilson, have previously worked on popular shows like Snowfall and a drama centered around MMA.
