Filmmaker Yi Zhou has accused actor Jeremy Renner of sending her unwanted explicit photos and then threatening to involve immigration officials when she addressed the issue. Renner is known for his role as an Avengers star.
This week, Zhou posted screenshots on Instagram of WhatsApp conversations she claims she had with Renner, and detailed her side of the story in lengthy captions accompanying the images.
She explained that she and the other person first met while working on Chronicles of Disney, a documentary she directed about the history of the Walt Disney Company. They also worked together on an animated project. Zhou said their working relationship eventually became romantic.

Zhou shared on Instagram that in June 2025, Jeremy Renner unexpectedly sent her two photos of himself, followed by unwanted pornographic images through direct messages and WhatsApp. She stated this was how he first contacted her, and that he had used the same approach with other women.

A spokesperson for Renner stated that the claims made by this person are false.
Zhou kept sharing what she claimed were messages and photos from Renner, including one post with a drooling emoji next to a revealing image. Some people online suspected she was fabricating the conversations with the help of AI, but Zhou insisted the messages were genuine.

Zhou recently shared that this situation highlights a harmful environment within Hollywood. She explained that it reveals a pattern of negativity aimed at discouraging women and Asian female filmmakers, stating, “It really shows the dark side of Hollywood.” She also expressed her continued affection for the industry while urging an end to the silencing of misconduct affecting women.

The director shared that she previously felt unsafe around Renner, recounting an incident where he was drunk and yelled at her for two hours, leading her to lock herself in her room out of fear. She emphasized that she never sought a romantic relationship with him, stating, “He used and dismissed me, and disregarded our collaboration.”
I recently read an interview with the Daily Mail where Zhou shared screenshots of a WhatsApp conversation with Jeremy Renner. Apparently, she confronted him about sending inappropriate photos, and his response was really disturbing. She claims he threatened to report her to immigration authorities – the message actually said, “immigration will be notified of your—” and then just stopped mid-sentence. She believes this was a clear threat to call ICE on her, and honestly, it’s pretty frightening.
Zhou explained she decided to publicly share her accusations to support other women who experience harassment and intimidation while working in the entertainment industry.
