Huntr/x’s popular song, “Golden,” from the series K-Pop Demon Hunters, has received four Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year. The group Huntr/x consists of EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, and the song was co-written by EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick (age 24, and also a DO), and Teddy.
Besides being nominated for Song of the Year, “Golden” is also up for awards in the categories of Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Song for Visual Media, and Best Remixed Recording thanks to the David Guetta remix. The entire soundtrack from K-Pop Demon Hunters is also nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. Variety recently interviewed EJAE, Nuna, and Ami following the announcement of the nominations.
EJAE was visibly upset, saying she was still processing the news and in shock. Ami confessed she’d been crying, describing the experience as surreal. Nuna highlighted the significance of seeing Korean representation, explaining that imagining the impact on young viewers—and how it might inspire them—gave her goosebumps. She believes this visibility will help children understand their potential.
EJAE achieved a milestone as the first Korean-American female songwriter nominated for song of the year, but she shared that she still sometimes feels like she doesn’t fully deserve the recognition. Ami explained that, as Korean women, they were often pressured to work much harder and go above and beyond to get the same level of acknowledgement as others.
“Golden” is competing against some major artists for Song of the Year, including Lady Gaga, Doechii, Rosé and Bruno Mars, Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar with SZA, Sabrina Carpenter, and Billie Eilish.
The award for best pop duo or group performance is contested by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Katseye, Rosé featuring Bruno Mars, and SZA with Kendrick Lamar. The nominees for best song written for visual media are Nine Inch Nails, Miles Caton, Elton John and Brandi Carlile, Jayme Lawson, and Leonard Denisenko with other artists.
Although many people anticipated it, “Golden” wasn’t nominated for record of the year. If it had been, Huntr/x would have been the first K-pop group ever to receive that honor.
Huntr/x expressed their excitement about seeing everyone nominated at next year’s ceremony. Ami chimed in, enthusiastically adding, “And Sabrina Carpenter! I really love her.”
