Get ready, Zelda fans! Nintendo and Sony Pictures are teaming up to bring the popular video game series to life with a new live-action movie. Filming is officially starting in New Zealand.

Following the hit movie The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo revealed plans for a live-action adaptation in 2023. Recent information from the Film & Television Industry Alliance shows that filming started on November 4th in Wellington, New Zealand, and is expected to finish in April 2026.
New Zealand is world-renowned as the filming location for the Shire in The Lord of the Rings, and is famous for its stunning natural beauty. Because of this, it’s become a popular choice for filming fantasy movies and shows like The Hobbit and The Chronicles of Narnia. Fans are excited to see if the location can bring the same sense of magic and adventure to this video game adaptation.
Who’s in the Cast for the Legend of Zelda Movie?

Ever since they announced the movie, everyone’s been wondering who would play Link and Zelda, right? Well, Nintendo finally let us know back in July! Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is going to be Link, and Bo Bragason will be Princess Zelda – I’m so excited! They’ve also given us a little peek at what the story will be about, and here’s what Nintendo shared:
I’ve always been captivated by The Legend of Zelda. It’s a story about Link, this brave young hero who’s meant to defend the beautiful kingdom of Hyrule from really dark forces. Basically, this evil guy named Ganon is after the Triforce, a super powerful relic, and he wants to rule everything. To stop him, Link has to go on this incredibly dangerous adventure, fighting monsters, exploring creepy dungeons, and figuring out all sorts of tricky puzzles to find powerful items that will help him win. It’s a truly epic quest!
Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario for Nintendo, will be a producer on the movie, working with Avi Arad, who used to run Marvel Studios. Sony Pictures will handle the film’s distribution.

Although many specifics are still unknown, fans are eagerly anticipating the live-action adaptation of the beloved The Legend of Zelda franchise, set to release in theaters on May 7, 2027.
