Following the huge success of Jurassic World: Rebirth in theaters, Universal Pictures seems to be planning more dinosaur movies.
Jeff Sneider, a well-connected entertainment reporter with his newsletter The InSneider, says a fifth Jurassic World movie is currently being developed.
Released in July, Jurassic World: Dominion is the fourth film in the Jurassic World series and the seventh movie overall in the Jurassic Park franchise, which started with Steven Spielberg’s 1993 hit. The new film has earned about $868.5 million around the world, showing that the series remains popular.
According to Sneider, director Gareth Edwards – known for films like Monsters, Godzilla, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and The Creator – is close to signing on to direct Jurassic World 5. He previously directed Rebirth.
Sources say Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali will likely return as their characters Zora Bennett, Duncan Kincaid, and Dr. Henry Loomis, according to The InSneider.
We don’t yet know who’s writing the next movie or what it will be about – details are being kept secret. However, the project appears to be progressing rapidly. According to EmpireCity Box Office, Universal is aiming for a release in either 2027 or 2028.
Since Rebirth was a big hit with both audiences and at the box office, it’s expected that Universal and Amblin Partners want to continue making films in the series.
