Everyone is talking about KPop Demon Hunters, which quickly became a massive hit in 2025. Some think Sony missed out by releasing it on Netflix instead of in theaters, but the streaming release may have actually helped it become so popular. Regardless, the movie has a huge fanbase, especially among kids who adore Huntr/x, the K-pop group who secretly fight demons. So, it’s no surprise a sequel is planned, though fans will have to wait until 2029 to see it!
We understand making an animated movie takes a lot of effort. But the children who enjoyed the first film will likely have grown up by the time the sequel is released. Fortunately, a new generation of fans will probably emerge to fill the gap, perhaps even a new group of K-pop fans!
There’s a chance the sequel to KPop Demon Hunters might be released before 2029 if production speeds up. The original was a huge hit – it featured an animated group with three songs charting on the Billboard 100, as reported by Variety, and became Netflix’s most-watched movie ever. It’s amazing to think that Netflix’s first original film, Lilyhammer, came out in 2012!
Rumi, Mira, and Zoey raise many interesting questions, and the first movie only hinted at the rich backstory. We’ll have to wait and see what the next installment reveals.
