Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Returning for The Mummy 4

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will be back as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell in a new Mummy movie, bringing the popular characters back to the big screen after a long wait. This fourth installment promises a return to the franchise fans love.

Industry sources have confirmed that the new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo known as Radio Silence.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the next Mummy movie won’t be a complete restart of the series. It will continue the story as a sequel, effectively skipping over the events of The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Fraser and Weisz Reunite

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz previously appeared together in The Mummy Returns (2001). Their new film brings them back to the heart of the action, a significant change after the series lost momentum with 2008’s Tomb of the Dragon Emperor and Universal’s unsuccessful 2017 Mummy reboot, which starred Tom Cruise.

For years, fans have wanted a follow-up to the original films, and Brendan Fraser has said he’d be on board – but only if it kept the same lighthearted spirit. He’s noted that the previous remake didn’t capture the enjoyable feeling that made the 1999 and 2001 movies so popular.

New Directors: Radio Silence

Universal chose directors Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett, known for their work on Ready or Not and the latest Scream movie. They’re experts at creating action-packed horror with a sense of fun, and this fits with how star Brendan Fraser envisions the new Mummy film.

Universal hasn’t officially responded, but this change suggests the franchise is going back to what made it successful: exciting adventures, funny moments, classic monsters, and a hint of the supernatural, rather than being purely scary.
