Nicki Minaj responded to criticism from fans after she voiced support for President Donald Trump’s actions aimed at protecting Christians in Nigeria.
On Saturday, Nicki Minaj shared a post from Donald Trump on X (formerly Twitter) where he stated that Christians in Nigeria are in serious danger and announced he’s labeling the country as a place of particular concern. Minaj responded by saying she was very grateful to live in a country where people are free to practice their religion.
Former President Trump hinted that the U.S. might intervene militarily in Nigeria if attacks against Christians don’t stop. However, Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry stated to Al Jazeera that Christians are not being singled out for these attacks.
The spokesperson acknowledged the current security challenges are concerning, but stated that claims suggesting Christians are the sole target of violence are inaccurate. They firmly denied that a genocide against Christians is occurring in Nigeria.
We have consistently stated that while we recognize the tragic killings happening in Nigeria, these are not targeted solely at Christians. People of all faiths – including Muslims and traditional religion adherents – are being killed, and Christians do not make up the majority of those affected.
Some of Nicki Minaj’s fans were upset by her public support for Donald Trump. One fan responded to her post, saying they were considering ending their support. “As a dedicated fan who’s always stood by you, seeing you support this person is making me reconsider my support. We live in a country where religion is being used to harm and silence your LGBTQ+ fans,” the fan wrote.
Nicki Minaj reacted sharply, standing by her previous comments. She explained, “To hear about Christians being murdered and then have the focus shift to your sexuality… I would defend you just as fiercely as I’m advocating for the Christians being murdered in Nigeria – I’ve always done that. Keep that in mind. With empathy. Just remember that!” She also doubted the fan’s loyalty and said she might block them.

Nicki Minaj’s post caught the attention of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, who extended an invitation for her to visit the UN. He wants to discuss, in greater detail, the work his administration is doing to safeguard religious freedom for Christians globally.
Nicki Minaj announced on X (formerly Twitter) that she’d been invited to the United Nations. She playfully encouraged her fans, known as ‘Barbz,’ to celebrate, and highlighted that she’s the first female rapper ever to receive such an invitation.

This situation shows that Nicki Minaj isn’t afraid to speak up about what she believes in, politically and when it comes to helping others, even if it means facing backlash from her fans – and that’s commendable.
