Saturday night’s WWE Main Event turned into a wild evening that fans won’t forget anytime soon.
Following a thrilling match where Cody Rhodes defended his Championship against Drew McIntyre, all eyes turned to the WWE Women’s Championship. The resulting match between Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill was a particularly intense and one-sided display, proving to be one of the most powerful performances WWE has seen in a long time.
According to WWE.com, Stratton quickly found herself in trouble as soon as the match began. Cargill immediately dominated, powerfully slamming Stratton to the mat, and Stratton instantly clutched her knee, appearing to be injured.
Cargill quickly seized the opportunity. She immediately attacked Stratton’s injured knee, kicking it to bring her down again, then followed up with a powerful slam.
I was really rooting for Stratton, and she showed some heart by kicking out of that early pin! But it was tough to watch, because you could tell she was hurting. Every time she tried to get back on her feet, her knee just wouldn’t let her. Then, when Cargill came running at her, Stratton managed to sidestep and send Cargill crashing into the ring post – a great move, even though you could see she was in a lot of pain.
Stratton almost managed a comeback, but she couldn’t get to the top rope in time. Cargill grabbed her, yanked her down by her hair, and forcefully drove her face into the ring apron, knocking the champion to the floor.
Cargill quickly regained control of the match, throwing Stratton against the steel steps and then rushing at her again. Stratton fought back, managing to slam Cargill into the steps instead. She then took a risk, climbing to the top rope and performing a Swanton Bomb, but Cargill kicked out, refusing to stay down. This was the last time Stratton managed to gain any advantage in the match.
Cargill launched into her Eye of the Storm attack, then delivered three powerful Fallaway slams. Stratton kept fighting, managing to kick out each time, but she was clearly struggling. Cargill followed up with a devastating powerbomb, and though Stratton unbelievably kicked out again, it only prolonged the match. Cargill hit two more powerbombs before finally finishing with her signature Jaded move, pinning Stratton and becoming the new WWE Women’s Champion.
This match was a huge milestone for Jade Cargill in WWE, representing her first singles championship win and arguably her most impressive performance yet. It was a difficult night for Stratton, who was severely hampered by an early knee injury. Once Cargill gained control, Stratton was unable to mount a comeback.
With Cargill now the Women’s Champion, the field is open for anyone to challenge her. Many fans are hoping to see a match between her and Bianca Belair when Belair recovers from her injury – it has the potential to be a major rivalry.
