Just as filming was about to start on Season 4 of the popular Paramount+ show Tulsa King, several members of the production team were surprised to learn they wouldn’t be back.
Deadline reports that 26 crew members out of a total of 600 working on the show have been informed their positions are being eliminated. These affected roles include various departments like stunts, camera operation, sound, hair and makeup, photography, rigging, and transportation.
Most of the people impacted expected the show to continue, as a two-year renewal had been announced after Sylvester Stallone signed a new contract in 2024.
Freddie Poole, a stunt coordinator nominated for an Emmy and also Sylvester Stallone’s stunt double, was among those affected. He’d worked with Stallone for 14 years. He expressed his disappointment with how things unfolded for the Atlanta film community, explaining that he was offered a smaller role – just as a photo double – but he turned it down.
After 30 years in the television industry, and having worked on many long-running shows, I’ve never experienced such a high rate of people leaving a production.
Chad Gregory, who previously served as Sylvester Stallone’s stand-in for three seasons, learned through a friend that he wouldn’t be rehired. The job, which used to pay $250 per day, is now being offered at $400 a day. Gregory acknowledged the situation, saying, “I understand it’s a business decision. Some people might think I should have been more assertive, and that’s their right.”
Neither Paramount nor 101 Studios have made an official statement, but industry insiders say it’s common for TV shows to have rotating crews. Those who aren’t coming back reportedly didn’t have current contracts, and the changes weren’t due to budget issues.
This change in leadership coincides with other significant updates for Tulsa King’s fourth season. Terence Winter will be back as executive producer and lead writer, taking over from Dave Erickson, who is leaving his role as showrunner.
Taylor Sheridan is moving his work from Paramount to NBCUniversal in 2029, signing a five-year contract. Meanwhile, Paramount is facing financial challenges and has already begun layoffs, cutting around 1,000 jobs in the U.S., with more cuts anticipated.
