Fans are getting a first look at what to expect from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday teaser, and it sounds like it’s more than just a typical preview. New information was revealed during a recent live stream on the Film Threat YouTube channel.
The story centers on Doctor Doom and reveals that his armor isn’t just a symbol of power – he needs it to support a severely injured body.
As a movie fan, I’m hearing the upcoming footage really showcases the villain with a lot of action. Apparently, he’s designed as a throwback to those classic Universal monsters – think really dramatic and imposing. Some people are even saying he gives off similar vibes to Erik from The Phantom of the Opera. The best part? We’re likely to get our first look at a teaser trailer attached to Avatar: Fire and the Ash when it hits theaters!
Avengers: Doomsday is the next Marvel superhero movie and will be the fifth film in the Avengers series.
This movie is a Marvel Studios production, created with AGBO and distributed by Walt Disney Studios. It’s part of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anthony and Joe Russo are directing, and Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay together.
The movie boasts a huge cast of stars, including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr.
The Avengers join forces with the people of Wakanda, the Fantastic Four, a new team of Avengers, and the X-Men to battle Doctor Doom, portrayed by Downey.
The project’s development has been quite a journey. Back in July 2022, Marvel announced plans for two new Avengers movies as part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first, titled The Kang Dynasty, was intended to wrap up the multiverse storyline, with Jonathan Majors returning as the villain, Kang the Conqueror.
I was really excited when I first heard Destin Daniel Cretton was directing and Jeff Loveness was writing! But things changed quite a bit. By late 2023, Cretton had moved on, and Michael Waldron took over the writing. Plus, Marvel seemed to be moving away from the Kang storyline, which I understand was partly due to the issues with Jonathan Majors. Then, in July 2024, it was amazing news that the Russo brothers were coming back to direct! Christopher McFeely rejoined as a writer too, and the biggest surprise of all? Robert Downey Jr. is going to be Doctor Doom! They even gave the movie a new subtitle: Doomsday. It’s been a wild ride, but I’m so intrigued to see how it all comes together.
Filming for the movie started in April at Pinewood Studios in England, and continued at other locations in England and Bahrain. The cast features familiar faces from past Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as well as actors who appeared in the X-Men movies from 20th Century Fox. Shooting finished in September.
The movie Avengers: Doomsday is set to come out in the US on December 18, 2026, and its follow-up, Secret Wars, will be released on December 17, 2027.
