As a huge fan, I was so excited when the official trailer for Stranger Things 5 finally dropped, and it did not disappoint! Seriously, the trailer showed epic battles across different dimensions, with the terrifying Upside Down really starting to destroy Hawkins. And Vecna? He looks even more powerful and menacing than before – it left me completely stunned. As we get closer to the final season, I’ve been trying to make sense of everything, and here are some of the biggest takeaways from the trailer, though honestly, some of it is pretty worrying.

Hawkins is Under Military Quarantine
The new trailer for Stranger Things 5 immediately shows Hawkins completely sealed off by the military. Eleven and Mike are talking on a rooftop, and Mike admits they’re losing hope, feeling trapped with no clear end to the lockdown in sight. We then see soldiers and a massive fence, confirming Hawkins is effectively imprisoned. Plus, there’s a quick shot of Linda Hamilton armed with a gun! Things look incredibly bleak for Eleven and her friends, with no way to escape. However, we still have faith in them.
We See Max’s Current Status in the Stranger Things 5 Trailer
A major question fans have is whether Max will recover from her coma. After her close call with Vecna, she was hospitalized and in a critical condition. The trailer for Stranger Things 5 offers a glimpse of what’s happening with her… but it’s still unclear. We briefly see Lucas carrying Max, who is still unconscious, out of the hospital while being attacked by Demodogs. He’s also carrying a boombox, and since music protected her from Vecna’s powers before, it’s possible he’s trying to bring her back! Hopefully, that’s the case.
The Upside Down Rips Through Hawkins
Honestly, things are really bad here in Hawkins. The Upside Down is completely tearing our town apart, and it feels like the barrier between our world and theirs is practically gone. We’re seeing huge red lightning storms, massive cracks opening up in the ground, and just… chaos. It’s a brutal fight, with soldiers and those Demogorgons battling it out everywhere. I’m genuinely worried the Upside Down is going to completely take over. And to make matters worse, we actually saw Vecna walking around town – it was terrifying! I’m so scared for our heroes and what’s going to happen to Hawkins.
In addition to the strange mirroring of our world in the Upside Down, some characters actually return to that dangerous place. We see Joyce exploring a dark tunnel with a flashlight, Eleven and Hopper bravely jumping into the action, and plenty of exciting trouble unfolding.
Eleven’s Powers Are Stronger Than Ever in the Stranger Things 5 Trailer
Everyone agrees that Eleven is the only one with a chance of defeating the incredibly powerful Vecna, and fans are really hoping she succeeds. The trailer for Stranger Things 5 shows her powers looking stronger than ever – she’s shown jumping over fences and creating a huge wave of light in the sky. It’s unclear if this is a protective shield or something different, but it’s obvious El is ready to face Vecna and his forces.
Vecna Uses Will As His Puppet
Will Byers has faced more hardship than anyone else since the beginning of the series. After being lost in the Upside Down and controlled by the Mind Flayer, fans are hoping he finally gets a break. Sadly, it seems Vecna isn’t finished with him yet. In the latest trailer for Stranger Things 5, Vecna appears, looking as menacing as ever, and uses his powers to lift an unconscious Will into the air. Vecna ominously tells him, “William, you are going to help me…one last time.” That moment was definitely a shock!
One particularly emotional moment stood out: Dustin and Steve sharing a very tearful hug. It definitely got everyone worried that Steve might not survive! Fans have already been fearing the worst for Steve, and this scene only amplified those concerns. Hopefully, Steve makes it through, because we might all need tissues if he doesn’t. Thankfully, the trailer for Stranger Things 5 still shows him alive – at least for now.
When Does Stranger Things 5 Come Out??
The last season of Stranger Things will be released in three parts, starting in 2025. Here are the dates:
- Stranger Things 5, Volume 1 releases on November 26
- This includes episodes one through four.
- Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 releases on Christmas (December 25)
- This includes episodes five through seven.
- Stranger Things 5, Volume 3 releases on New Year’s Eve (December 31)
- This is the finale episode, or episode eight
The holidays might feel a bit different this year. Until the new season arrives, many of us will be revisiting older episodes on Netflix, hoping our favorite characters survive. That recent trailer was intense, and it’s left us with a lot to process – we’ll likely be thinking about it for weeks to come.
