A new special about the musical ‘Wicked’, titled ‘Wicked: One Wonderful Night’, caused an online backlash when fans noticed posts hinting it would be shown in Israel.
This two-hour special celebrates the beloved musical Wicked and introduces the upcoming movie, Wicked: For Good. It will include performances by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, as well as a first look at footage from the film. The event was filmed at the Dolby Theatre and is an official production of NBC and Universal.

After advertisements for the special started showing up on Instagram, Threads, and other social media sites, fans immediately shared screenshots suggesting it would be available in Israel.
Facing some backlash, a number of people have called for a boycott or asked for the broadcast to be canceled. NBC and Universal maintain that the special is meant to be a celebration of music, film, and performances, and isn’t intended to be political. It’s set to air on November 6th in the U.S., and will be available to stream on Peacock the next day.
The announcement immediately sparked a strong reaction on social media, with many people expressing disappointment and some calling for protests. Concerns were raised about whether the event’s timing was insensitive given current events in the Middle East, and others felt an event of this size could be seen as a political statement.
