Elvira’s ’80s Radio DJ Set Is Pure Halloween Retro Goodness

Beyond Elvira’s witty commentary on celebrities, it’s fun to recognize some familiar voices – including her old comedy friend Phil Hartman and Saturday Night Live castmate Jon Lovitz. The show features classic Halloween songs like “The Monster Mash” and Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London,” along with the iconic “Science Fiction Double Feature” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. But Elvira also surprises listeners with deeper cuts, such as Fred Schneider of the B-52s’ “Monster in my Pants” and Sting’s “Moon Over Bourbon Street,” which was inspired by Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire. And she even adds a few songs of her own!

Cassandra Peterson, the actress who brought Elvira to life, has retired from playing the character in person. However, she still manages the Elvira brand, and you can find plenty of Elvira-themed products, especially around Halloween. Though she’s no longer wearing the makeup, her voice still sounds exactly the same! This makes us wonder if she could bring Elvira back to life as a voice-over artist for a new radio show. There have been so many great spooky songs released in the last 35 years that would be perfect for a playlist, and we’d definitely listen to a show like Elvira’s Halloween Party Part II.
