Another popular video game might be coming to Netflix as an animated series. Following shows based on Tomb Raider, Castlevania, and Sonic Prime, reports suggest Netflix is developing a series around Crash Bandicoot. The quirky marsupial and his home, the Wumpa Islands, first appeared in video games in 1996. Many people fondly remember playing as this sneaker-and-shorts-wearing character when they were younger.
According to What’s on Netflix, there’s currently no official word about an animated Crash Bandicoot series. While a live-action version wouldn’t likely work well, a challenge with adapting Crash is that he rarely speaks in the games. Fans also weren’t thrilled when he voiced lines with an Australian accent in Skylanders.
I’m not particularly concerned with whether or not he has a lot of dialogue – I expect he’ll speak as needed. However, his unpredictable behavior is what really defines him, so it might be best to let his actions do most of the talking. WildBrain Studios is reportedly working on this show, but details about the plot haven’t been released yet.
It’s been several years since a new Crash Bandicoot game was released, and it’s uncertain if the character will appeal to today’s younger players. Only time will tell how Crash Bandicoot performs with its new partnership with Netflix.
