‘Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc’ Cuts Through the Competition at the Box Office This Weekend

Anime continues to perform strongly, with Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc claiming the number one spot at the box office this weekend.

The film brought in $17.2 million from theaters across North America, according to recent reports. This is the second successful movie for Crunchyroll in a row, following the surprise hit Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle which debuted with an impressive $70 million in September.

Although it wasn’t as huge a hit as some other films, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc still performed better than expected.

It performed better than several other recent releases, including Disney and 20th Century’s Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, Paramount’s romance Regretting You, and the horror film Black Phone 2 from Universal and Blumhouse.

This animated movie is a dark fantasy action film from Japan, adapted from the hit manga series Chainsaw Man. It was created by the animation studio MAPPA, with Tatsuya Yoshihara directing and Hiroshi Seko writing the screenplay.

The movie picks up right where the first season of the anime left off, covering story content from the fifth and sixth volumes of the original manga. It also showcases storyboards created by a talented team of artists including Daisuke Tokudo, Masato Nakazono, Sōta Shigetsugu, Takuya Niinuma, Tatsuya Yoshihara, and Yuzuru Tachikawa.

The highly anticipated movie, Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc, has released a post-release promotional video! The video features “Bladedance (Estimated 70% Release Edit)” by Maximum the Hormone, which is used as an insert song in the film. The movie is now playing in theaters and is a huge hit! #ChainsawManMovie #ChainsawMan #chainsawman

The movie first came out in Japan on September 19th, distributed by Toho, and was later released worldwide by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Releasing.

Released initially in some Asian countries on September 24th, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc became available globally by October 24th. The film has already earned approximately $77 million worldwide and is receiving positive reviews from both audiences and critics.

The film has been very well-received by critics. It currently has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on reviews from 25 critics, and a score of 72 on Metacritic, indicating generally positive feedback. Reviewers particularly highlighted the film’s impressive animation, exciting action sequences, and moving story.

As a huge anime fan, I was really happy to see Richard Eisenbeis from Anime News Network give this movie an A! He specifically called out the animation, visuals, and music as being top-notch. But what really stuck with him – and honestly, me too – was the surprisingly touching, if a little sad, romance between Denji and Reze. He said it totally makes the movie worth checking out, and I’d agree!

IndieWire’s Wilson Chapman gave the film a B+ and praised its animation, characters, and voice acting. He called it one of the best anime adaptations recently, and highlighted its emotional teen love story, saying it’s likely to make viewers cry.

I’m so thrilled to see Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc doing so well! It’s getting fantastic reviews and people are clearly turning out to see it, which just proves how much anime is becoming a real powerhouse in cinemas around the world. It makes me so happy to see it succeed!
