I’m so excited to see that Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is number one at the box office! It’s fantastic to see anime continuing to do so well in theaters – this movie truly deserves all the success it’s getting.
The R-rated movie had a strong start, earning an estimated $8.5 million from Friday and preview showings in 3,003 theaters. Experts predict it will make around $15.5 million during its opening weekend.
The film is available with subtitles or dubbed audio, and showing it in IMAX and other high-quality theaters helped increase its audience size.
The film is currently performing better than recent releases, including the Bruce Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere, and the romance Regretting You, which is based on a novel by Colleen Hoover.
As a moviegoer, I’ve been watching anime really take off at the box office, and Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures are clearly leading the charge. Okay, let me tell you, this movie really delivers. Richard Eisenbeis at Anime News Network gave it an A, and I completely agree – it’s a must-see! The animation is stunning, the music is fantastic, and honestly, the relationship between Denji and Reze is surprisingly touching. Even Wilson Chapman from IndieWire was impressed, giving it a B+ and calling it one of the best anime adaptations we’ve seen in a long time. Be warned, though – it’s emotionally powerful stuff, and you might just need a tissue!
