Original HALO Remake Heading to PlayStation for the First Time

Many PlayStation fans, myself included, were first drawn to the Xbox by the groundbreaking first-person shooter, Halo: Combat Evolved. I remember visiting friends just to try it, and constantly getting defeated – I was completely new to the controls! But Halo and its sequels became incredibly popular, building a franchise that’s thrived for 25 years, even inspiring a TV series. Now, Halo Studios is celebrating this legacy with a complete remake of the original game, rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5. And the best part? It’s coming to PlayStation 5!

The original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, featuring Master Chief’s first adventure on the ringworld, is getting a stunning visual upgrade. It was announced at the 2025 Halo World Championships and is scheduled for release next year.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a complete reimagining of the original Halo: Combat Evolved’s story, now built in Unreal Engine 5 with stunning updated graphics and improved controls. Enjoy the classic campaign with a friend locally via split-screen (on consoles), or team up with up to three other players online with cross-play and cross-progression. The game also includes three brand-new missions, more weapons, vehicles, and new enemies to battle.

Along with the announcement, we’re sharing a roundtable discussion – your first glimpse at the game in action. Executive Producer Damon Conn, Creative Director Max Szlagor, and Game Director Greg Hermann talk about how they’re reimagining this classic for today’s players.

The highly anticipated game, Halo: Campaign Evolved, will be released in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. It will also be available through Xbox Cloud Gaming and supports the Xbox Play Anywhere feature. Players with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass will have access to the game on day one.
