Good news for Harry Potter lovers! Audible and Pottermore Publishing have revealed additional actors who will be part of the new full-cast audiobooks of the Harry Potter series.
Many were surprised to see Bill Nighy nominated, as some viewers will recognize him from his role as Rufus Scrimgeour, the Minister of Magic, in the later Harry Potter movies.
This time around, Nighy is playing a very different character: Professor Slughorn. Slughorn is the Potions Master who taught Tom Riddle – later known as Voldemort – how to create horcruxes. After Voldemort returns, Slughorn goes into hiding, but eventually returns to teach at Hogwarts.
Nighy expressed his enthusiasm for the role, joking, “It’s fun to play a professor after already being a Minister for Magic. I wonder if I’m the only actor who’s done both?”
I’m thrilled my work might still be enjoyed by future generations. It’s always a pleasure to portray intelligent characters, especially since I didn’t have the opportunity to pursue higher education myself. I hope to create something that brings joy to kids, whether they’re on long trips or just commuting to school.
Bill Nighy is currently the only original movie actor participating in the Full-Cast Audio Editions, although other actors from the films are reappearing in different projects. Warwick Davis, for instance, will reprise his role as Professor Flitwick in the new HBO TV series.
The Full-Cast Audio Editions also feature an impressive lineup of stars voicing iconic characters.
Hugh Laurie will be portraying Albus Dumbledore, with Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort. Riz Ahmed will provide the voice for Professor Snape, and Michelle Gomez will play Professor McGonagall. The cast also includes Mark Addy as Hagrid, Kit Harington as Professor Lockhart, Keira Knightley as Professor Umbridge, Simon Pegg as Arthur Weasley, and James McAvoy as Mad-Eye Moody.
