Ashley Park Teases Exciting Musical Moments in ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5

Good news for those who love Mindy Chen! Ashley Park, the actress who plays her on Emily in Paris, has shared that season five will feature some significant musical performances from her character.

Thirty-four-year-old Park discussed her new art exhibit, CHROMA: Tales Between Hues, with Us Weekly. The installation, a multisensory experience, was created in partnership with Genesis House in New York City.

She shared that this year’s performance will feature some really spectacular song and dance numbers with Mindy, and she can’t wait for audiences to see them.

The fifth season of the Netflix series will debut on December 18th. Park shared that filming took her and the cast to several cities, including Rome, Paris, and Venice. She explained, “The recent teaser was filmed entirely in Rome, but we actually shot a lot in Paris and Venice too – it felt like we were making three different movies all at once this summer.”

You know, it’s funny, looking back on this season, I think I actually spent more time on boats than I did relaxing in cafés! Seriously, between the water taxis in Venice, the classic gondolas, and even the speedboats in Rome, I was constantly on the water. I told Us Weekly it felt like a boat was my second home!

Besides the music and travel aspects, Park suggested the new season will explore deeper emotional storylines. She explained that the show will really get into the characters’ feelings and relationships—particularly the bonds of friendship and sisterhood—and how those connections are challenged.

Hearts will Rome farther than ever before…

It was a particularly meaningful day for me, personally. My parents and grandmother were able to come to the launch of my Genesis House installation, which is really a celebration of my Korean-American identity. I’m incredibly proud of it; I wanted to create something that truly honored my heritage, but in a way that felt fresh, imaginative, and modern. I think it achieves that – it’s a respectful tribute, but definitely not stuck in the past.

The project blends the traditional Korean five-color system, Obangsaek, with Park’s own life experiences and Korean folktales. Park shared that her grandmother’s visits to her Broadway shows have always been affected by the language barrier. She explained, “Genesis helped me understand that emotions can transcend language,” highlighting the power of universal feelings.
