Developer FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco have announced that the upcoming Switch 2 version of celebrated open-world action RPG Elden Ring has been delayed into next year.
I just saw the news from the studios about the Switch 2 version of the game. They said development is still going strong, but they need a little more time to make sure it runs perfectly. Basically, they’re tweaking things to get the performance just right before they release it, so it’ll be delayed a bit. I’m a little bummed about the wait, but I’d rather they take the time to make it a great experience!
A new release date hasn’t been announced, but Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is currently scheduled to launch on Nintendo’s next console in 2026.

The delay of Elden Ring on the Switch 2 comes after reports of poor performance on the console. IGN, after trying the game at Gamescom, called the handheld performance of Elden Ring on the Switch 2 a “disaster.”
According to a recent report, the Switch 2 version of Elden Ring experienced noticeable slowdowns when playing outside the starting tutorial. The report also noted the button layout was strangely confusing, especially since the Switch 2 controller is very similar to other popular controllers.
IGN hasn’t shared details about how Elden Ring runs on the Switch 2 when docked, but it likely won’t be a significant improvement over the handheld performance. Hopefully, the extra development time will allow FromSoftware and Bandai Namco to optimize the game for Nintendo’s new console before it launches.
When it’s released, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will offer the complete game on the Switch 2, featuring the acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and all updates from the original 2022 release.
Players will be able to experience Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition when it releases on the Switch 2 next year. The game is already available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, though the downloadable content is sold as a separate purchase.
