Crunchyroll has unexpectedly taken down a number of popular anime shows, which has upset many fans.
Today, three anime series disappeared from streaming services without notice: Death Parade, Claymore, and Parasyte: The Maxim. Claymore was removed yesterday, and Death Parade and Parasyte were taken down just hours ago.
Viewers are frustrated that Crunchyroll removed shows without any warning. Many are asking for a system similar to Netflix, where titles are flagged with a “leaving soon” notice, giving people a chance to complete their viewing.
It’s notable that all the titles recently taken down from Crunchyroll were animated by the studio Madhouse. People are suggesting this might mean there are problems with Madhouse that are stopping Crunchyroll from extending their streaming agreements.
Both Death Parade and Parasyte: The Maxim were highly praised by both critics and viewers. Death Parade stood out for its impressive animation and compelling story, which delves into questions of what it means to be human through an unusual premise involving games that determine people’s fates.
Fans loved Parasyte: The Maxim for its thrilling action and moving story about the connection between people and alien creatures. Claymore gained a dedicated audience thanks to its gritty fantasy world and powerful female leads.
As a huge anime fan, I was really bummed to find out a bunch of series just disappeared from Crunchyroll! It basically means that, for most of us around the world, there’s no official way to stream them right now. Everyone’s been sharing their disappointment online, and a lot of us are just confused why Crunchyroll would pull these popular shows without any warning.
