How GEN V Season 2’s Finale Sets Up THE BOYS Season 5

The season two finale of Gen V ends with a major bang, both in terms of action and shocking revelations. The previous episode revealed that Cipher isn’t a powerful being, but simply a man named Doug who was being controlled by Thomas Godolkin. Godolkin, the founder of God U, intends to eliminate any superpowered individuals he considers weak or unnecessary, believing this will allow supes (excluding Homelander) to truly dominate. Episode 8 sees his plan unfold, and the Gen V finale expertly sets the stage for the events of The Boys season five.

Thomas Godolkin Took Compound V1 and Has Controlled Doug (formerly Cipher) Since 1996

This episode really blew my mind! We flashed back to the very beginning of the season, to that lab in Odessa back in 1967. It turns out Godolkin actually injected himself with the same Compound V that Soldier Boy and Stormfront used! I have a feeling we’ll get the full story on that in Vought Rising. He survived that fire, even though he was badly burned, and it looks like he doesn’t age at all. But the craziest part? He didn’t just survive, he found someone to control, and apparently, Doug – formerly known as Cipher – tells us he’s actually the second person Godolkin has controlled! It’s getting so good!

After the first death, Doug received a call from Dr. Fielder in 1996, asking him to come for a repair. Dr. Fielder learned Doug was completely alone, and Godolkin then forced Doug to kill him. Since then, Doug has been trapped within his own mind, in a state similar to a deep mental prison. It’s incredible to consider he’s been under mind control for almost three decades. This raises questions about Dr. Fielder’s identity and his connection to the larger issues involving God U and Vought.

Marie, Polarity, and Others Stop Goldolkin and He Dies in Gen V Finale

It’s a tragic end for Doug. While traveling with Polarity, Black Noir attacks, killing Doug and taking Polarity captive. However, Sage secretly helps Polarity escape, hinting at a possible change of heart. She’s clearly disturbed by Thomas’s plan to eliminate weaker superheroes, including Homelander, The Deep, and Firecracker. Luckily, Polarity’s escape is timely, as Marie and her team desperately need his help.

Godolkin unexpectedly announced a seminar offering students a chance to train with him, potentially achieve the highest ranking, and even become one of the elite Seven. Marie attempted to warn everyone against trusting him with a video, but some supers, eager for success, ignored her and attended anyway. Predictably, Godolkin then manipulated them into fighting each other using his abilities.

Marie recovers, and the team rushes to warn others and stop Godolkin. They come up with a clever plan: flooding the room with so many superpowered individuals that he can’t control them all. It works, freeing many from his influence while he’s temporarily incapacitated. However, he manages to take control of Marie and forces her to attack her sister and friends. Polarity intervenes, breaking his control over Marie, allowing her to destroy Godolkin’s body.

The Boys‘ Starlight/Annie and A-Train Show Up and Ask Marie, Annabeth, Sam, Cate, Emma, and Jordan to Join the Resistance

At the episode’s conclusion, Polarity urges the group to leave school, warning them that Vought is on their way and will likely find someone else to blame. He plans to stay and handle things himself, telling them not to return. As they drive away from God U, trying to reach Stan Edgar, they’re surprised by the arrival of Starlight and A-Train. These two are leading a resistance movement and want to team up with Marie, Cate, Jordan, Emma, Annabeth, and Sam to take on Vought and Homelander. Starlight also reveals she intentionally let Sage leak the Odessa information, hoping to cause some disruption.

What Gen V Season 2’s Finale Means for The Boys Season 5

This confirms that the characters from Gen V will appear in season five of The Boys. When Homelander learns about the events at Godolkin University and realizes the connection between Sage and the university itself, he’ll become determined to kill Marie. She’s now a significant threat to his position as the most powerful superhero. While there are still many details to uncover, this group has the potential to work together to rescue the Boys and locate Butcher.

At the end of season four of The Boys, Butcher made a shocking turn and went off on his own, but he still possesses the virus that can kill superpowered individuals. Now, the challenge is figuring out how to retrieve it from him. Can Butcher redeem himself after such a betrayal, and potentially use his abilities to aid supes who are genuinely trying to do good? We’ll find out when season five of The Boys premieres.
