Good news for fans of Stranger Things: the show’s final episode might be coming to theaters! According to a new report from Puck News, Netflix is planning to release the finale in cinemas at the same time it’s available for streaming.
The report indicates that the two-hour series finale will likely be shown in AMC Theatres and other cinemas on December 31st, the same day it becomes available on Netflix. Although the agreement isn’t finalized, sources at Puck News say preparations for a theatrical release are already underway.
This news follows a recent interview with the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, where they mentioned Netflix’s Bela Bajaria had denied their request for a movie theater release. However, according to Puck News, that conversation took place several weeks ago, before Netflix and AMC were further along in discussions.
Netflix is starting to show some of its films in movie theaters after talks with major cinema chains. This could lead to more Netflix originals being released in theaters down the line.
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be released in three parts. The first set of episodes arrives on November 26th, with the second coming on December 25th, and the final episodes on December 31st. This season will have eight episodes total and is being produced by the Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, and Dan Cohen.
The core cast will be back for the final season, including stars like Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp. Joining them is Amybeth McNulty, who will now be a series regular, and Linda Hamilton, famous for her work in The Terminator.
The final season is set in the fall of 1987, a year after the previous events. The friends in Hawkins face their most dangerous challenge yet as they work to finally defeat Vecna. However, things become more difficult when the military comes to town and starts pursuing Eleven.
If the rumors are correct, fans of Stranger Things will get a special way to say goodbye to the show. As the year ends, they’ll be able to watch the finale together at a midnight movie screening with other fans.
