Charlie Cox Addresses Those Daredevil in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Rumors

The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie is shaping up to have a large cast of heroes, potentially rivaling the scale of a Fantastic Four film – though not quite reaching Avengers levels. Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner/the Hulk, Jon Bernthal is back as Frank Castle/the Punisher, and Sadie Sink (from Stranger Things) will be joining the cast in an unknown role that many speculate is another superhero. Unfortunately, Charlie Cox, who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil, won’t be returning. He shared this news with the Phase Hero podcast, as reported by Deadline.

I don’t really pay attention to what people are saying online. I’ve heard the rumors that fans think I’m in the next Spider-Man movie because I’m filming in London, but that’s not true. I’m not involved with Spider-Man at the moment; my focus is entirely on Daredevil.

Daredevil and Spider-Man have a well-established history of working together in the comics to protect New York City. Because they already know each other’s secret identities within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many fans were eager to see them team up. However, due to Doctor Strange’s spell in No Way Home – which caused everyone to forget Peter Parker – any future meeting will feel like a first encounter for both of them.

Honestly, Charlie Cox can say whatever he wants, but fans like me aren’t buying it! We’ve all seen this before – it’s what I call ‘The Andrew Garfield Effect.’ Remember how he insisted he wasn’t in Spider-Man: No Way Home? And then, boom, there he was! Now, nobody trusts Marvel actors when they try to deny being in something. I’m looking at you, Halle Berry! I’ll believe you’re not Storm in Avengers: Doomsday when I actually see the credits roll – not a moment sooner.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, arrives in theaters on July 31, 2026.
