Debbie Harry, the lead singer of Blondie, wants Florence Pugh to portray her in a movie about her life.
The 80-year-old singer recently told The Sunday Times about her work as an actress and an upcoming movie based on her life, which will be directed by Charlotte Wells, known for the film Aftersun.
Harry was very excited about the possibility of Florence Pugh taking on the role. She said, “I’d be thrilled if it were Florence Pugh – I think she’s a fantastic actor who’s capable of anything.”
Harry is a seasoned actress with roles in well-known films like Videodrome, Union City, Hairspray, New York Stories, and Body Bags. However, she still wishes she’d taken one particular role that passed her by.
Ridley Scott wanted her to star in the film Blade Runner, but her music label advised against it, not wanting her to pause her music career.
Daryl Hannah ultimately got the role, but Chris Stein, a member of Harry’s band, thought it was a mistake and encouraged her to take the part.
Florence Pugh has expressed interest in playing Blondie. When asked at the 2020 Santa Barbara International Film Festival which historical figure she’d like to portray, she said, according to Entertainment Weekly, “Blondie, just because she’s so cool.”
Florence Pugh is a highly sought-after actress in Hollywood right now. She’s known for her leading roles in popular films like Midsommar and Little Women, with her performance in the latter earning her an Academy Award nomination.
A movie about Debbie Harry, starring Florence Pugh, might actually happen. Pugh seems really excited about the idea, and she’s a big fan of Harry, making them a great fit for the project.
