Jeremy Allen White, known for his role in The Bear, is officially part of the Star Wars universe.
The actor has confirmed he’ll be the voice of Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son, in the new movie *The Mandalorian & Grogu*. This is the first time Rotta will appear in a live-action *Star Wars* project, following his debut in the 2008 animated film *Star Wars: The Clone Wars*.
White recently told *Good Morning America* how he landed the role. He explained that he met Jon Favreau, the director of both *The Mandalorian* and the new film, and being a long-time fan, they began discussing movies. White even asked about Favreau’s film *Swingers*. According to White, Favreau then asked if he’d be interested in doing a voiceover for a *Star Wars* project.
White immediately said yes to the project, but he didn’t fully realize how significant the role was until afterward. He remembered thinking, “I love Star Wars, I’d be thrilled to do it!” But it wasn’t until he started voicing the character that he truly understood the responsibility and importance of the part.
Continuing the story from the Disney+ series *The Mandalorian*, the upcoming film *The Mandalorian & Grogu* will be directed by Jon Favreau, who also co-wrote the script with Dave Filoni. Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Din Djarin, and the film will also star Sigourney Weaver as a New Republic officer named Ward, and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial Warlord.
I was really excited for a fourth season of *The Mandalorian*, but unfortunately, the production got held up by the Hollywood strikes last year. Because of those delays, Lucasfilm decided to change plans and is now making a movie instead. It’s a bit disappointing not to get another season, but I’m still looking forward to seeing how the story continues on the big screen!
Production started in California in August 2024 and finished by the end of the year. The film is set to come out on May 22, 2026.
The story centers on Din Djarin and Grogu, who join forces with the New Republic following the Empire’s defeat. Together, they confront a rising danger posed by former Imperial leaders determined to reclaim power across the galaxy.
In addition to the primary actors, Dave Filoni will return as the X-wing pilot Trapper Wolf, and fans can also expect to see returning Star Wars favorites like Zeb Orrelios and the Anzellans.
Now that Jeremy Allen White is cast as Rotta the Hutt, the movie aims to offer a new perspective on the Star Wars universe and revisit a well-known criminal family from the saga.
