Did anyone miss David Gilmour‘s recent *Luck and Strange* tour? It was a fairly limited run of shows – a little over 20, including a couple of practice performances with an audience in Brighton, UK.
Everyone agrees the concerts were amazing performances by a legendary rock musician. Now, fans can enjoy that experience themselves with the release of David Gilmour’s new live album.
So, after wrapping up the year with some great stuff, he’s dropped even more new content! They actually put a concert film, *Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome*, in theaters, and now you can grab it on DVD and Blu-ray. But that’s not all – a massive four-album set called *Luck and Strange Concerts* came out on October 17th. You can find it on CD, vinyl, and of course, it’s streaming everywhere!
While being at the concert itself was probably the best way to experience it, the filmed performance and albums come very close, bringing the energy of the live show right to your home. David Gilmour fans, in particular, will really enjoy watching and listening to this.
David Gilmour brings the Luck and Strange concerts home
As a fan, I was really impressed with the show! There was so much amazing music and visuals that anyone could enjoy, whether you’re a longtime Gilmour devotee or just discovering his work. They played a lot of songs from the new *Luck and Strange* album, which was awesome, but they also mixed in plenty of classic favorites too – it was a really well-rounded performance.
This release features 23 songs, including tracks from his recent album, older solo material, and classic Pink Floyd hits. A complete list of songs is at the end of this article. His last album, *Luck and Strange*, received excellent reviews, and the songs translate beautifully to a live performance. It’s also wonderful to see him performing with his daughter, Romany, once again.
The concert included touching tributes to Richard Wright, Gilmour’s bandmate in Pink Floyd. The title song from the *Luck and Strange* album featured Wright playing keyboards from a previous recording. Gilmour also performed “A Boat Lies Waiting” from his 2015 album, *Rattle and Lock*, which he wrote as a memorial to Wright. These songs offered specific, heartfelt reminders alongside the classic Pink Floyd pieces.
This album is classic Gilmour, with all the familiar elements of his sound. It’s filled with memorable guitar solos, including a couple that are considered his very best. He recently discussed how he approaches playing the solo from “Comfortably Numb” live – letting emotion guide him at every performance. It’s a stunning way to end a concert, movie, or album – definitely don’t skip it.
