Lily Allen is sharing details about her breakup with David Harbour and how it impacted her new album. The couple, who were married for four years, separated eight months ago, and Allen says making music was a way for her to cope with the difficult emotions that followed.

I recently chatted with Lily Allen, and she told me something pretty amazing – she actually recorded her new album in just sixteen days! She explained that she laid down the tracks in December 2024 as a way to work through everything going on in her personal life. It sounds like a really honest and raw project, born out of a need to process things, and I’m definitely intrigued to hear how that translates to the music.

She explained that while the songs draw from her personal experiences during her marriage, they aren’t direct accounts of what happened. She clarified that the album contains elements of her relationship, but isn’t a completely factual retelling of events.

Allen has spoken about the difficult emotions she was experiencing while creating her album, describing it as a time filled with “confusion, sorrow, grief, and helplessness.” The lyrics explore themes of betrayal and heartbreak, particularly in the songs “Sleepwalking” and “Dallas Major,” which suggest struggles with infidelity and her marriage.

Even though it’s been difficult, she says she’s now fully focused on getting better and is proud of the progress she’s made with her mental health.

Allen explained that she’d previously sought treatment, which she saw as a positive step. She realized her emotions were overwhelming and decided she needed a break to get help.

Hugh Grant, 50, hasn’t said much publicly about the breakup. He gave a short answer – simply, “Oh boy” – in an interview with British GQ earlier this year. He generally prefers to keep his personal life private, as he believes stories in the tabloids are often overblown.

He explained that he avoids responding to rumors because he values his privacy and doesn’t want to give them any attention. He believes that engaging with them would only create a scandalous and embarrassing situation.

The couple tied the knot in Las Vegas in 2020, with an Elvis impersonator leading the ceremony. Harbour quickly became a stepfather to Allen’s two daughters from a previous relationship. They initially met in 2019 and were first seen together publicly on the red carpet that same year.

Even after the split, Allen seems to be concentrating on improving herself and her music. She’s still using her life experiences as inspiration for her work and has been vocal about taking care of her mental wellbeing.
