Pentagon Slams Netflix’s ‘Boots’ As “Woke Garbage”

The Pentagon has criticized Netflix’s new drama, *Boots*, which focuses on LGBTQ individuals in the military. Officials called the show “woke garbage” and argued it harms the values and spirit of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Just a week after it premiered, the Pentagon’s spokesperson, Kingsley Wilson, publicly criticized the show. The series is inspired by the memoir of retired Marine Sergeant Greg Cope White, titled The Pink Marine, and was produced by the late World War II veteran Norman Lear.

According to Wilson, the U.S. military, under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Hegseth, is refocusing on traditional values of strength and skill. She stated that standards are consistently high and apply equally to everyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, because physical demands don’t differentiate between individuals.

Wilson stated they will maintain their quality standards and won’t cater to a specific political viewpoint, contrasting this with Netflix, which he criticized for consistently creating and distributing content he considers to be overly focused on progressive social issues, even for children.

What Boots Is About

Created by Andy Parker, the series *Boots* follows Cameron Cope, played by Miles Heizer, a teenager hiding his sexuality who enlists in the Marine Corps with his close friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh). The show is based on a fictionalized version of Greg Cope White’s 2016 memoir, and is set in the 1990s, when it was illegal for openly gay people to serve in the military.

Fallout Following Netflix Backlash

The Pentagon recently criticized Netflix due to a series of controversies. This follows Elon Musk canceling his Netflix subscription after a director at the streaming service, Hamish Steele, made offensive comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk, even joking about his assassination and labeling him a “Nazi.” Musk responded by calling Steele a “groomer.”

This new wave of criticism continues the increasing concerns about the path Netflix is taking, as disagreements over politics and culture increasingly affect Hollywood and the entertainment industry.
