The second-to-last episode of *Gen V* season two delivered a major surprise with a twist involving Cipher and Thomas Godolkin. Many viewers suspected the man in the hyperbaric chamber was the founder of God U, but the revelation that Cipher wasn’t who he claimed to be was still shocking. It turns out Cipher wasn’t in control at all – Thomas Godolkin was secretly manipulating an innocent man, using him as a puppet.
In this episode, Marie and Cate return to Cipher’s headquarters to search for Thomas Godolkin’s remains. Marie is determined to restore him to health, hoping he can help defeat Cipher. While she welcomes Polarity’s complete support, she remains wary of Cate and doesn’t allow her to assist. Marie also excludes her sister Annabeth, along with Jordan, Emma, and Sam, from helping, despite Annabeth’s fears that Marie is putting herself in mortal danger. Polarity goes to challenge Cipher directly, while Marie uses her abilities to locate Thomas Godolkin.
Even though she objected, Annabeth, Cate, and Emma joined the effort to find Marie. Marie managed to heal Thomas, but it severely weakened her abilities. Thomas was incredibly grateful while the others watched, but his recovery felt unsettling. At the same time, Polarity was about to kill Cipher when the God U president started pleading for his life, appearing genuinely terrified. To Polarity’s shock, he realized this man wasn’t the powerful figure he expected – he was just a normal person named Doug, being controlled by Thomas. This revealed that Cipher isn’t a real person in the world of *Gen V*.
Thomas unexpectedly attacks and kills a super-powered individual who was trying to pledge Sam’s fraternity. This act marks the beginning of his stated intention to eliminate weaker supers. The reason behind Thomas’s choice of victim and how he took control remains a mystery, but the season two finale of *Gen V* promises to reveal more.
