Mortal Kombat II Featurette Released at NYCC

At New York Comic Con, Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema shared a sneak peek at the upcoming *Mortal Kombat II* movie with a new behind-the-scenes video. Fans can now get a first look at the highly anticipated sequel, which is scheduled to come out in May 2026.

This special feature showcases new footage, interviews with the cast, and a detailed look at the film’s massive battle scenes and enhanced visuals, highlighting that it was specifically created for IMAX.

First Look at the Action

The trailer showcases both familiar and new faces, like Johnny Cage (Karl Urban), Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada), and Noob Saibot (Joe Taslim), and offers quick looks at exciting battles, including the long-awaited fight between Scorpion and Noob Saibot.

The preview hints at a grimmer story for the next installment, showing Earthrealm’s heroes getting ready to battle Shao Kahn and his army, who pose a catastrophic threat to humankind.

What the Cast and Crew Said

The new NYCC preview features interviews with director Simon McQuoid, Karl Urban, and other cast members. They highlighted that the sequel is much more intense than the first, with larger action sequences, increased violence, and a more complex storyline.

About the Sequel

Following the 2021 reboot, *Mortal Kombat II* picks up the story with Earthrealm’s heroes facing a new danger: Shao Kahn, the ruler of Outworld.

The cast includes:

Simon McQuoid directed the film, which was written by Jeremy Slater. Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and McQuoid all served as producers.

Release Date

The new movie, *Mortal Kombat II*, will be released in theaters and IMAX on May 15, 2026. It will begin showing in other countries a few days earlier that week.
