Kimmel Mocks Trump’s Desire for a Nobel Prize

Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at Donald Trump’s ongoing desire to win a Nobel Prize, shortly before María Corina Machado of Venezuela was named the Nobel Peace Prize laureate for this year.

Yolanda Machado, a prominent critic of Venezuela’s President Maduro, received an award recognizing her decades-long dedication to bringing democracy back to her country. The Nobel Committee praised her consistent efforts to defend democratic rights and her commitment to achieving a peaceful shift away from dictatorial rule.

She won after facing years of harassment, threats to her life, and times when she had to go into hiding, all because she openly criticized the Venezuelan government.

You know, as a movie fan, I really appreciate stories about people with guts. And the committee totally gets it – they were saying it’s so important to acknowledge those who fight against oppressive governments. It’s a powerful thing to see, both on screen and in real life.

Trump has again suggested he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. He asserted that he’s responsible for preventing several wars and recently announced on his social media platform, Truth Social, that “Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan.” He stated that hostages would be freed “very soon” and that Israeli forces would withdraw “to an agreed-upon line.”

Following the Nobel announcement, Trump’s team responded with White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung stating that Trump would remain dedicated to brokering peace, ending conflicts, and saving lives, describing him as a humanitarian with a lasting impact. Cheung also criticized the Nobel Committee, claiming they prioritized politics over promoting peace.

Before the Nobel Peace Prize winner was announced, Jimmy Kimmel made jokes on his show about Donald Trump’s strong desire to win it. Kimmel suggested Trump was promoting his peace plan hoping to improve his chances, playfully calling Trump “Donnie Lama” and saying he’d never seen anyone try so hard to win an award.

Kimmel went on to poke fun at Trump’s statement that he didn’t want the Nobel Peace Prize for personal gain. He pointed out the contradiction, noting that the White House had just called Trump the ‘peace president’ while simultaneously deploying troops to Portland, even joking they were going after a yoga studio.

Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes got a laugh from the crowd, but they also highlighted the continuing disagreements about how people view Donald Trump and his reputation internationally.
