The season finale of *Peacemaker*, called “Full Nelson,” is now available, and James Gunn is revealing some interesting behind-the-scenes stories, including a scene that was ultimately cut from the show.
James Gunn recently shared in a virtual press conference that he had discussed the possibility of Deadpool making an appearance in the show with Ryan Reynolds.
The concept originated during a conversation about the multiple universes featured in the episode, which were accessible through Peacemaker’s Quantum Unfolding Chamber. James Gunn mentioned he’d envisioned one of the doors opening to reveal the character Deadpool.
He chuckled while recounting how he’d envisioned a scene where characters would open a door to find Deadpool inside. He’d discussed the idea with Ryan Reynolds, but realized it would have been incredibly difficult to pull off, even though Reynolds was enthusiastic about it.
The appearance didn’t work out, and that makes sense. Deadpool is a Marvel character, while Peacemaker is from DC, so bringing them together would be difficult.
Bringing Marvel and DC characters together in one project would require complex negotiations and agreements between the studios. However, the willingness of James Gunn and Ryan Reynolds to consider the idea offers fans a tantalizing glimpse of what could be.
After making the comment, Gunn playfully predicted it would quickly spread online, saying, “That’s all anyone will be discussing now. Is Deadpool hiding somewhere? I really shouldn’t have brought it up!”
Although Deadpool didn’t make an appearance, the idea of him briefly being in *Peacemaker* feels perfectly in line with the playful and knowing style both characters are known for.
As a critic, what really struck me about this story is how much pure joy James Gunn clearly gets out of making his shows. While a Deadpool appearance would have been a riot – honestly, I was picturing it the whole time – I get why it wasn’t feasible from a legal standpoint. Still, you can’t help but imagine how funny that would have been!
