‘Dragon Ball’ Fans Face Wait as 2026’s Biggest Release Gets Delayed

Dragon Ball fans will have to be patient, as a highly anticipated new release has been delayed.

The release of the *Dragon Ball Complete 42-Volume Double Cover Box Set* has been delayed. It was originally planned for February 4th, 2026, but will now be available on April 3rd, 2026.

Dragon Ball’s publisher announced a delay on X (formerly Twitter) due to a surprisingly large number of pre-orders. They stated that Shueisha needs extra time to prepare the full set for release. The exact release date will differ depending on where you are.

This box set is a special collection created as part of the *Dragon Ball Super Gallery* project, which began in 2021 to honor the franchise’s 40th anniversary. Forty-two well-known manga artists, including Eiichiro Oda, the creator of *One Piece*, and Tite Kubo, who created *Bleach*, each reimagined one of the original book covers with their unique artistic style.

The project started with Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of *Naruto*, redesigning the first chapter, and finished with Eiichiro Oda, creator of *One Piece*, redrawing the last. Both artists also wrote personal messages sharing their respect for Akira Toriyama and explaining how much *Dragon Ball* influenced them.

Shueisha began releasing the illustrations in its Saikyo Jump magazine starting in September 2021.

I was so excited when the box set went up for pre-order in May 2025! It includes every single one of the 42 volumes, and they’ve even given them beautiful double covers. Plus, it comes with eight original dividers and a fantastic card set featuring all the artwork from the galleries. It was frustrating at first because pre-orders were only open in Japan, and those of us outside the country had to wait for an international release, but it was worth it!

Now that the game is launching in Japan in April, players outside of Japan—particularly those hoping for an English version—might have to wait a bit longer. While some stores, like Amazon, may offer the Japanese version for international shipping, an English translation will probably take more time.

Even though there’s been a slight delay of two months, we should hear about when the box set will be available internationally after it’s released in Japan.
