‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set Photos Showcase First Look Michael Mando Returning as Scorpion

Production on *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* is underway, and recent photos taken in Basingstoke, England, show Michael Mando back in his role as Mac Gargan, a.k.a. the Scorpion. This gives fans the first look at his return.

The photos show Mando exiting a military helicopter. It’s hard to tell if he still has the scars on the left side of his face from his appearance in *Spider-Man: Homecoming*, but people are already wondering what his character will do next.

Mando hinted on social media that Scorpion could have a dramatic change in the new movie, similar to the character Venom.

In the comics, Gargan briefly merges with the Venom symbiote and pretends to be Spider-Man while working with the Dark Avengers.

Destin Daniel Cretton directed *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, which was written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, along with Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Marvin Jones III.

This project has been years in the making. Sony started developing a fourth Spider-Man movie for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as early as August 2019.

In 2021, producer Amy Pascal revealed plans for a new Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland. Destin Daniel Cretton was hired as director in October 2024, and the movie’s title, *Brand New Day*, was made public in March.

Principal photography started on August 3, in Glasgow, Scotland, under the working title Blue Oasis.

The fight scenes are being coordinated by the Jackie Chan Stunt Team, who previously worked on the movie *Shang-Chi*. Filming in Glasgow used several city locations – including Merchant City, George Square, and Trongate – to represent New York City. Tom Holland shared his excitement about filming on location again, as much of *No Way Home* had to be filmed on sound stages because of pandemic restrictions.

Photos taken on the Glasgow set revealed armored vehicles decorated with red demon symbols, leading publications like *Total Film* to suggest they might be connected to the Inner Demons gang and their leader, Mister Negative. Separately, Glasgow World reported spotting a rhinoceros statue, hinting that the character Rhino could also make an appearance in the movie.

After initial filming, the production moved to Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey on August 7th. They then returned to Glasgow to film additional scenes until August 18th.

Filming at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire happened all through September. On September 19th, Tom Holland briefly sustained a mild concussion, which caused a pause in production until September 29th while he recovered.

New photos from the set in Basingstoke show Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln, the villain known as Tombstone. Jones previously provided the voice for the character in the 2018 animated film, *Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse*. Filming in Basingstoke is scheduled to wrap up in early October.
