Creative Assembly, the makers of Total War: Warhammer 3, has experienced a rollercoaster of success and setbacks. After facing criticism last year, they were starting to regain public trust and boost sales. However, they unfortunately repeated past errors, undoing much of the progress they’d made.
A recent update to Total War: Warhammer 3, intended to improve gameplay for Tomb Kings and Lizardmen, accidentally introduced a bug that’s making some AI opponents completely inactive throughout the entire game, ruining the experience for players. This issue was reported during the update’s testing phase, and the fact that the developers didn’t address it, despite saying they would, has frustrated many long-time fans.
Players on Steam are leaving a lot of negative reviews for the game, which has caused its overall and recent review scores to drop to “Mixed” and “Mostly Negative,” respectively.
Despite being clear and logical, CA’s detailed statement about recent events didn’t really ease the concerns.
Fans aren’t as upset about new bugs appearing – those are bound to happen occasionally. What’s really frustrating them is the studio’s seemingly careless response to these issues. Many players have lost faith that the developers will reliably fix problems, feeling that the studio only addresses them when pushed by outside criticism. This constant need for pressure is draining for everyone involved.
This isn’t the first time the community has faced this kind of problem. Despite repeated apologies and promises from the developers to improve, the same issues keep happening. So, while some might think the current outrage is excessive, it was likely inevitable.
The upcoming Tides of Torment DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3 is now planned to launch later this year after a slight setback. Plus, Creative Assembly will share details about future Total War titles during an event in December 2025.
