The new Predator movie, Predator: Badlands, is set to take a surprising turn for the franchise.
Producer Rosenblatt says the new movie will be rated PG-13, which is a first for the main *Predator* film series – it’s the least intense rating any of these films have ever received.
Rosenblatt stated their aim is to create a film with the impact of an R-rated movie, but accessible to a larger audience. He explained, “We’re hoping to achieve a PG-13 rating that *feels* like an R-rated film,” adding that this would simply allow more people to enjoy the movie.

As a big movie fan, I was relieved to hear there’s absolutely no on-screen harm to any human characters, and definitely no human blood. The director, Rosenblatt, explained it simply: since there aren’t any humans *in* the movie, there’s no chance of seeing any human blood!
We’re hoping this will work in our favor. We’ll push ourselves as much as possible within the given limitations, and we believe we can create some impressively disturbing content—but with a color palette that doesn’t rely on red.
Viewers should anticipate a lot of gruesome alien effects, like bright green blood and a pale, artificial fluid. The filmmakers promise the movie will remain extremely violent, even with the current rating.
Many dedicated fans are disappointed with the announcement. Online, they’re expressing their frustration, with comments like “They’ve toned down the Predator movie” and “This rating will ruin the movie for Predator fans.” This backlash shows that viewers fear the PG-13 rating will lessen the intense, gritty feel of the original films.
