Fans are getting their first detailed view of Snake Mountain, Skeletor’s notorious fortress, thanks to newly released concept art from Masters of the Universe.
I just saw a sneak peek at something from Brand Licensing Europe, and wow! It’s a fortress shaped like a giant, twisted serpent – think a volcanic mountain, but seriously menacing. It’s glowing with this molten energy, and while it definitely feels inspired by classic monster designs, they’ve really turned up the intensity and scale for the movie. It looks absolutely huge and intimidating!

At a recent industry event, Mattel’s Ruth Henriquez and Amazon MGM Studios’ Greg Coleman talked about the plan to bring Masters of the Universe back to the big screen. They revealed artwork of Snake Mountain and explained that the new movie will be a large-scale, faithful adaptation of the original series, but with a relatable origin story designed to appeal to a wide range of viewers. Details were shared via He-Mania.com.
Henriquez believes now is the perfect time to bring back *Masters of the Universe* because the franchise has consistently stayed relevant. Coleman added that making a movie of this scale requires a lot of work, and they were waiting for the right team – especially director Travis Knight and a well-rounded cast – to bring their vision to life.
Story, Characters, and Skeletor
The movie focuses on Prince Adam’s journey as he unlocks his hidden abilities and discovers he’s royalty. It’s designed to be easily enjoyed by newcomers, while also including fun references and details that longtime fans will appreciate. Producer Rob Coleman highlighted Skeletor as a particularly compelling villain, explaining that the conflict between Adam and Skeletor is central to the film’s plot.
Coleman praised the incredible sets and attention to detail, and concept art of Snake Mountain proves his point. The image depicts a bizarre, sharply angled mountain formed like a ferocious, fanged creature, with glowing lava flowing from its mouth. This creates a menacing, fiery atmosphere that emphasizes the danger of Skeletor’s lair.
Amazon and Mattel’s Bigger Picture
The presentation also highlighted how Masters of the Universe fits into Amazon’s broader strategy.
Coleman believes the film is best enjoyed in theaters, but Prime Video will let people rewatch their favorite scenes as much as they like. The goal is to create a lasting cultural phenomenon—more than just a movie—with potential for toys, merchandise, and continued popularity, much like Mattel did with *Barbie*.
