Elon Musk announced that his AI company, xAI, aims to create a high-quality video game within the next year. He made this statement after seeing a user share a brief, AI-created video resembling a war game, which was generated using xAI’s Grok Imagine tool.
According to a recent post, Grok will eventually be able to create video games on the fly. Elon Musk followed up by stating that xAI’s game studio plans to release a significant AI-generated game before the end of next year.

Musk announced that Grok, his company’s chatbot, will produce a watchable movie by the end of next year, with plans for truly great films by 2027.

Founded by Elon Musk in 2023, xAI is developing various AI technologies. Their primary project is Grok, a chatbot built directly into the X platform. Last year, they released Aurora, a tool that lets Grok generate images from text descriptions. More recently, in July, xAI launched Grok Imagine, which creates short, six-second animated videos with sound.
Musk recently announced that his company’s technology will soon be capable of creating complete video games, and he’s confident they’ll be high quality. This announcement came as a surprise to many, as while AI is rapidly improving at creating videos, it’s still in the early stages of development when it comes to making full games.
During a live stream in February, Elon Musk announced that his company, xAI, was starting to develop AI-powered games. He encouraged anyone interested in helping to build these games to join the xAI team, making the announcement during the stream.
This isn’t Elon Musk’s first venture into gaming. Before founding SpaceX and Tesla, he worked at Rocket Science Games in the mid-1990s. He’s actually listed in the credits of two Sega CD games, *Loadstar: The Legend of Tully Bodine* and *Cadillacs and Dinosaurs: The Second Cataclysm*, though both received fairly average reviews upon release.
It seems ambitious that xAI aims to create an entire video game using AI in just over a year. However, if Elon Musk’s statement proves accurate, it could represent a significant leap forward for artificial intelligence.
