Pokémon GO Jungle Cup – Great League Edition: Best Leads

These Pokémon are strong, fast attackers that immediately put pressure on opponents. They’re durable enough to stay in the fight for a while, making them great choices to start a battle – either to quickly knock out the opponent or establish a solid strategy for the long term.

  1. Cradily (Acid, Rock Tomb, Grass Knot)
  2. Crustle (Fury Cutter, X-Scissor, Rock Wrecker)
  3. Forretress (Bug Bite, Sand Tomb, Rock Tomb)
  4. Pangoro (Karate Chop, Close Combat, Night Slash)
  5. Shadow Charizard (Ember, Blast Burn, Air Cutter)
  6. Diggersby [S][XL] (Quick Attack, Scorching Sands, Fire Punch)
  7. Shadow Hydreigon (Dragon Breath, Brutal Swing, Dragon Pulse)
  8. Altaria (Dragon Breath, Sky Attack, Flamethrower)
  9. Corviknight (Sand Attack, Air Cutter, Payback)
  10. Shadow Piloswine (Powder Snow, Icicle Spear, Stone Edge)

Pokémon with an [S] symbol have nearly identical stats whether they’re in their normal or Shadow form. Pokémon with an [XL] symbol need special Candy XL to reach their full potential.

Pokémon GO Jungle Cup – Great League Edition: Best Safe Switches

If your starting Pokémon puts you at a disadvantage, it’s smart to switch it out for a better one. This category includes Pokémon that are either strong leads themselves or are specifically good at defeating common starting Pokémon. Switching allows you to save your original lead for later in the battle and might even make your opponent change their plans.

  1. Crustle (Fury Cutter, X-Scissor, Rock Wrecker)
  2. Piloswine (Powder Snow, Icicle Spear, Stone Edge)
  3. Diggersby [S][XL] (Quick Attack, Scorching Sands, Fire Punch)
  4. Drapion (Poison Sting, Crunch, Aqua Tail)
  5. Shadow Qwilfish (Poison Sting, Ice Beam, Aqua Tail)
  6. Shadow Crustle (Fury Cutter, X-Scissor, Rock Wrecker)
  7. Shadow Hippowdon (Sand Attack, Weather Ball (Rock), Scorching Sands)
  8. Shadow Hippopotas [XL] (Sand Attack, Rock Tomb, Body Slam)
  9. Shadow Ursaring (Shadow Claw, Swift, Close Combat)
  10. Lickilicky (Rollout, Body Slam, Shadow Ball)

Pokémon GO Jungle Cup – Great League Edition: Best Closers

These Pokémon really shine when shields have been used up, either because they can withstand a lot of damage or because they finish battles fast with powerful charged attacks.

  1. Clodsire (Poison Sting, Earthquake, Stone Edge)
  2. Crustle [S] (Fury Cutter, X-Scissor, Rock Wrecker)
  3. Piloswine (Powder Snow, Icicle Spear, Stone Edge)
  4. Altaria [S] (Dragon Breath, Sky Attack, Flamethrower)
  5. Shadow Charizard (Ember, Blast Burn, Air Cutter)
  6. Cradily (Acid, Rock Tomb, Grass Knot)

  10. Galarian Moltres (Sucker Punch, Fly, Brave Bird)

Pokémon GO Jungle Cup – Great League Edition: Best Attackers

Certain Pokémon excel when battling opponents who still have shields, even though you’ve already lost yours. They’re built with helpful resistances and powerful quick attacks to make up for this weakness. That’s why you don’t often see Shadow Pokémon used in this way – they’re more fragile and take extra damage, making them a less reliable choice during battle.

  1. Diggersby [XL] (Quick Attack, Scorching Sands, Fire Punch)
  2. Forretress (Bug Bite, Sand Tomb, Rock Tomb)
  3. Altaria (Dragon Breath, Sky Attack, Flamethrower)
  4. Corviknight (Sand Attack, Air Cutter, Payback)
  5. Steelix [S] (Thunder Fang, Psychic Fangs, Crunch)
  6. Stunfisk (Thunder Shock, Mud Bomb, Discharge)
  7. Shadow Forretress (Bug Bite, Sand Tomb, Rock Tomb)
  8. Cradily (Acid, Rock Tomb, Grass Knot)
  9. Guzzlord (Dragon Tail, Brutal Swing, Dragon Claw)
  10. Wigglytuff (Charm, Icy Wind, Swift)

Seeing Pokémon like Altaria and Steelix perform well feels like a throwback for long-time players in the Jungle Cup. While some classic favorites are back, newer Pokémon such as Clodsire and Corviknight are also strong contenders. The current competitive landscape seems fairly dynamic, but still allows players to use Pokémon they may already have, reducing the need to acquire new ones.
